Learndirect @ the City Learning Centre

The City Learning Centre is now a Learndirect Centre. As such, we are able to offer thousands of different on-line courses in a wide variety of subjects. Most of these courses are absolutely free. Some have a modest charge. These courses are done "on line". Online learning is a really flexible way of learning. Once you have enrolled at a learndirect centre, you can access your course material from wherever you have internet access. So you can carry on learning at home, at work or at our Learndirect centre.

You simply log on and work through the course following the instructions. It is all explained very clearly and you work through it at your own pace. We will show you how to access the material and get started. There is always someone here who will be delighted to help you and give you lots of encouragement.

Information and Communications Technology
Would you like to know more about how to use your computer and the internet? Or how to use spreadsheets, databases or word processing? Courses available for beginners to experts.

General Business and Management
Are you happy with your abilities to set and achieve objectives? Would you like help with developing effective marketing strategies or even setting up your own business? Perhaps you need to prepare for a formal appraisal? We have over a hundred courses covering these areas and more.

Specialist Business and Management
Are you a retailer? Would you like a Practical Guide to Retail Law? We offer a range of courses that might be of help to you, from Practical Security, to Using Customer Information Profitably. This range of courses also covers such topics as motivating managers and their staff to implement good environmental practices.

Reading, Writing and Working with Numbers
Do you ever think that you need to just brush up on your reading writing or arithmetic skills? Maybe you are at the stage where you could do with a bit of help in trying to help your children with their homework? We have the courses you need.

"Instructor led" Learndirect courses
All Learndirect courses are self-study. However, we know that some people gain that extra bit of confidence if there is somebody there to lead them through the course. So we are currently running what we call "Instructor led" Learndirect courses. These are most suitable for beginners. They cover the basics of how to use your computer and the internet. At the moment, they are running on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 5pm. If you would be interested in enrolling on one of these courses, please contact us and we can advise you when the next one will take place.

Learners must be 19 or over.

Learndirect have just brought out a new course that we are very impressed with. It is called "Helping your child" and we are sure it will be of interest to parents of children of all ages. It is divided into four sections:
1. Helping your baby or toddler
2. Helping your child at primary school
3. Helping your child at secondary school
4. Communicating with the school
